Why LED

Why LED?

LED (Light Emitting Diodes) are the most recent advancement in lighting. LED’s are comprised of solid light chips which are very energy efficient and long lasting. LED’s operate completely different than incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs. LED’s are a solid state semiconductor material instead of a filament or ignited gas. An LED light is a chip protected in epoxy resin making LED’s tougher than light bulbs or fluorescent tubes. LED’s can withstand vibration, shock and wide variations in temperature without any negative affects.

In addition to durability over traditional light bulbs and fluorescents, LED lights offer additional benefits over incandescent, halide and compact fluorescent lighting. Longer life span of more than 50,000 hours, energy efficiency of more than 90%, reduced maintenance with labour cost savings on bulb replacement and higher safety are some of those benefits. LED’s have a retrofit replacement application for almost any type of lighting system. Although LED’s have a higher initial cost than incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs … the cost is quickly paid back in lower energy costs, longer life and labour savings.

A Sound Investment for Your Business

LED lights are offered in many types to produce many color temperature options, so colour temperature can be implemented for your specific needs. LED’s have a life of more than 50,000 hours compared to 1,500 hours for incandescent bulbs and LED lights with constant use will last for more than seven years without needing replacement. LED bulbs last ten times as long as compact fluorescent bulbs. LED’s will greatly reduce your maintenance costs and lower energy costs in comparison to incandescent and fluorescent lights. LED lights generate no heat and are cool to touch, with no risk of combustion with other materials. LED’s produce 3.4 British Thermal Units per hour, compared to 85 BTU’s for an incandescent bulb. Incandescent lighting wastes 90% of the energy it consumes via cast off heat. Heating a building space or the outside parking lot with incandescent is not efficient. LED’s are made from non-toxic materials while fluorescent lighting uses mercury and incandescent bulbs use gas that is not friendly to the environment.

The question we get asked most often is “What’s the difference between LED’s and the Compact Fluorescent bulbs we were told to buy to save the environment only a few years ago?” Technology has advanced greatly since the CFL and LED’s offer an energy efficient payback with longer life, more durability, better colour rendition and no Mercury. LED’s light up instantly and do not require start up time in cold temperatures like CFL’s. What can we say – LED’s are an infinitely better product.
